Groundbreaking is soon to be officially underway with the arrival of the first container of parts for the mountain coaster. Progress is on track at the construction site located within the glades area, skiers left of Smart Alec. With the arrival of our first container, we are just weeks away from installation. Additional shipments of containers are en route from Germany, scheduled to arrive over the next couple of weeks.

Progress on-site continues with construction of the Mountain Coaster. Foundations were poured Friday afternoon for bridges to be built along Village Way. The arrival of the second container of parts happened on Friday as well, allowing pace to remain on track. Additional shipments of containers are en route from Germany, scheduled to arrive over the next couple of weeks. Early next week, construction on hill drainage will commence.

Progress continues at the future site of the Mountain Coaster and Mini Golf course. Arnott Construction, a local company specialized in water and drainage, was onsite during the past week to start drainage – a key component to both the coaster and mini golf construction. Looking ahead, earth works can begin with the completion of storm water drainage.

The crew is also making headway with cement as the first foundation has been poured. Construction of the mountain coaster is contingent on cement pours which are so far on pace for building to begin within the next couple of weeks.

This week we welcome a crew from Wiegand Slide, Germany, to begin instillation of the Mountain Coaster. Construction is scheduled for 8-10 weeks following.

On the name front we are approaching a conclusion for our newest attraction to be unveiled over the next few days.

The Mini Golf Course at the base of Smart Alec ski run has holes are staked out. Progress is moving along smoothly.

August 4
And it’s official! After careful deliberation and many great suggestions from our guests via facebook and employees, we are happy to announce that Ontario’s first Mountain Coaster will be called Ridge Runner. The resort will introduce Ridge Runner following construction throughout the summer months. Currently there are only 150 Alpine Coasters worldwide. Our coaster will be operational year-round and is anticipated to be fully operational by winter 2010/11 providing yet another downhill adventure at Blue!

For years, Blue Mountain enthusiasts have shared stories of their experiences with our original summer attraction – the Great Slide Ride – an attraction which once drew thousands of thrill seekers to the Happy Valley run to wind down the Escarpment on a manually controlled cart.

Now a decade later, the first stage of Blue Mountain’s new attractions park will include the much anticipated Mountain Coaster, as well as a Mini Golf Course designed with the landscape of the Escarpment in mind.

Thrill seekers rejoice! The Mountain Coaster seats up to 2 people per cart and puts the rider in the driver’s seat, literally, controlling the speed and velocity at which the cart travels down the Escarpment. Prepare for an exhilarating ride with the track starting at the top of the Glades area, zig-zagging you down through the trees into the central Village area of the resort, ending at the top of Grand Central Lodge.

Ridge Runner
Work is well underway on the ascension side of Ridge Runner. (Photo). A good portion of the build is complete and our crew is pushing forward on pace. While you’re in the Village be sure to see the action first hand. Head to the Gondola and see the development from the bottom of the site, through the trees line and upwards.

Headway has also been made over the past two weeks with construction on the Mini Golf course. Rough work and digging around the marked holes has begun. The crew is content with developments and the pace on this project thus far. Many milestones have been reached over the course of August.
